SlideBurner was developed to allow people to upload and distribute their slide shows to friends. There is also an online community aspect, where people can join groups sharing slide shows based around common interests and subjects. For users wishing to distribute slide shows to their friends in a private manner, you can add a password to your slide show in order to restrict access to wanted viewers only. SlideBurner seems to be a small site at the moment, so the online community aspect doesn't seem to have taken off quite yet, but it is still adept as a tool for creating and distributing slide shows.
SlideBurner's most striking unique feature is that it allows you to embed a photo slide show in your blog or homepage as a Flash application. For the less tech savvy or people simply looking for a convenient way to put a holiday album on their site, this is a convenient solution. As well as uploading image files, you can also upload images from PDF and PowerPoint files, amongst others.
SlideBurner is a very clean, uncluttered looking website, with clear and simple to use buttons. Unfortunately, the interface seems to have difficulty in uploading a large batch of photos at once, which can be quite irritating when putting a slide show together. As well as this, uploaded photos not used in a particular slide show are automatically discarded, meaning that you will have to upload them again at a later date.
The registration process requires you to choose a username and password. You must also fill in your email, which you will then have to confirm in order to activate your account. The registration process also asks for your full date of birth.
SlideBurner offers a free service with storage of up to 200 MB, with free membership of up to three SlideBurner user groups. For U.S.$3.00/month, you can store up to 1 GB of photos, and join an unlimited number of SlideBurner user groups. As the SlideBurner user groups are underdeveloped anyway, you are essentially paying for more storage space.
SlideBurner is useful as a basic tool, enabling you to embed a slide show in your website or blog. However, if you are looking to browse many interesting images then you will be disappointed, as SlideBurner does not posses the same community background as other image sharing websites, such as Flickr or Google Picasa.
